The ORCID id is an internationally established, permanent identifier for the unambiguous identification of researchers. ORCID is platform-independent, non-commercial, and remains permanently unchanged. Thus, it enables researchers to be identified and their research results to be clearly attributed.

In its Publication Guideline, Heinrich Heine University strongly recommends the use of an ORCID id.

• As a researcher, you can be unambiguously identified via your ORCID id.
• Your ORCID id remains unchanged - regardless of whether your name or affiliation change.
• This means that your publications and research activities can be clearly and automatically attributed to you. This also facilitates communication with publishers, funders, repositories, etc.
• Your ORCID id is free of charge and can be created in no time at all.
• You can add your curriculum vitae to your ORCID profile.
• You can maintain your publication list in your ORCID profile. Many databases offer the option of automatically transferring the metadata of your publications to your ORCID profile via your ORCID id.
• You decide which information from your ORCID profile is visible to the public.
